Abstract:
This study investigates the moderating role of green transformational leadership on the relationship between green human resource management and environmental performance in the hotel industry in Nigeria. The main objective was to examine the effect of green HRM on environmental performance and evaluate whether such a relationship could be improved with a green TFL style. A convenience sampling technique was used to collect data from 649 staff of the hotels out of the 670 copies of the questionnaire distributed, and PLS-SEM was used for the analysis. The results showed that green HRM directly affects environmental performance, and green transformational leadership was not significant in moderating the relationship. The findings of this study provide insight into how hotel management in Kano, Nigeria can contribute positively to the environment by ensuring that all employees and managers are adequately staffed, trained, and inspired with green initiatives to work in a way that improves the environment. The study concluded that hotel management in Nigeria should emphasise green HRM practices because they help to improve the environment. Further, the results also demonstrate that the green TFL style does not facilitate the adoption of green HRM practices but only helps to improve environmental standards. Also, the hotels should emphasise green staffing and motivation and encourage knowledge sharing and teamwork among employees. These will encourage employees to act in an environmentally responsible manner. Furthermore, this study contributes to the literature by demonstrating the importance of green HRM practices in preventing and protecting the environment.
