Abstract: 
In Malaysia, Bahasa Melayu or Malay language is generally the first language (L1), and English is the second language (L2). Meanwhile, the French language is considered a third language (L3). We remark that most Malaysian university students learning French are prone to use L1 and L2 to learn L3. A a result, they having difficulties in acquiring French language reading skills.
